Frequently Asked
Questions |
Can
you attend as a Troop?
Yes, Troops are encouraged to attend. Each Scout will
register separately.We
are not in the Cimarron Council, can we attend?
If your Troop is not part of the Cimarron Council we
would encourage you to attend. We have had interest from
Troops in Arkansas and Kansas and look forward to
Scouting with them.
Will Scouts actually do a
Hornaday project, or just work on merit badges?
During the Hornaday Weekends, only merit badges classes
will be taught. This is because a typical qualifying
Hornaday project will take several months of planning,
organization, and activity to complete. Scouts will have
the opportunity to find out more information concerning
what is involved in starting and completing Hornaday
projects and the requirements needed in earning either a
Hornaday Badge, Bronze Medal, or Silver Medal.
Do adults Scouters need to pay
the registration fee to attend the Hornaday Weekend?
Yes, all meals provided during the Hornaday Weekend.

The Hornaday Award |
The William T. Hornaday
Award Program was created to recognize those who have
made significant contributions to conservation. The
original award program began in 1917, while Dr. Hornaday
was director of the New Your zoological Park and founder
of the National Zoo in Washington DC.
Today the Hornaday Award is the foremost award in the
area of Natural Reservation and Conservation in the Boy
Scouting Program. The fundamental purpose of the
Hornaday Awards program is to encourage learning by the
participants and to increase public awareness about
natural resource conservation. Understanding and
practicing sound stewardship of natural resources and
environmental protection strengthens Scouting’s emphasis
on respecting the outdoors. |

It is not necessary to attend the Hornaday Weekend to
work toward a Hornaday Award. Likewise, participation in
the Hornaday Weekend does not guarantee that a Scout
