About OA

EMA 'O MAHPE Lodge Flap

Purpose of the Order of the Arrow

bullet To recognize those campers - Scouts and Scouters - who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and by such recognition cause other campers to conduct themselves in such a manner to warrant recognition.

bullet To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit.

bullet To promote Scout camping, which reaches its greatest effectiveness as a part of a unit's camping program, both year-round and in the summer camp, as directed by the camping committee of the council.

bullet To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.

Eligibility to be elected into the Order of the Arrow

Youth Eligibility

To become a member, a youth must be a registered Boy Scout or Varsity Scout and hold the first class rank. He must have experienced 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping during the two-year period prior to election. The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the BSA. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps. Following approval by the Scoutmaster or Varsity team Coach, Scouts are elected to seek membership in the Order by their fellow unit members. Then, after completing the Ordeal experience, they become members of the Order of the Arrow. Each spring & summer our lodge sends out election teams to every troop in the Cimarron Council where all of the registered Boy Scouts can vote on their candidates for Ordeal induction. To schedule an O.A. presentation, contact your Chapter Chief or Advisor at one of our four Roundtables (Enid, Stillwater, Ponca City, or Woodward). All elections must take place with a Lodge Election Team between January 1st & June 30th each year.

Adult Eligibility

Each year, upon holding a troop or team election for youth candidates that results in at least one youth candidate being elected, the unit committee may recommend one adult to the lodge adult selection committee, with the approval of the Scout Executive, will be candidates for induction, providing the following conditions are fulfilled:

Nominees must be registered with the Cimarron Council. Adult selection is based on their ability to perform the necessary functions to help the Order fulfill its purpose, and not for recognition of service, including current or prior achievement and position. The individual will be an asset to the Order because of demonstrated abilities that fulfill the purpose of the Order. The camping requirements set forth for youth members must be fulfilled. The adult leader's membership will provide a positive role model for the growth and development of the youth members of the lodge. The lodge adviser, district chairman, council president, or members of the professional staff may recommend adults to the lodge adult selection committee. Adult nominations must be made at the same time as your Troop or Team elections. Schedule one today by contacting you District OA Advisor listed below

Ordeal Membership

The induction process, the Ordeal, is the first step toward full membership in the OA. During this period the member is expected to strengthen his involvement in the unit and encourage Scout camping.

For more information visit our Ordeal site.

Brotherhood Membership

After 10 months of service as an Ordeal member and after fulfilling certain requirements, a member may take part in the Brotherhood ceremony, which places further emphasis on the ideals of Scouting and the Order. Completion of this ceremony signifies full membership in the Order of the Arrow. Our goal is to have at least a 30% Brotherhood conversion rate among all eligible members of our lodge.

For more information visit our Brotherhood site.

Vigil Honor

After two years of service as a Brotherhood member, and with the approval of the National Order of the Arrow Committee, a youth or adult Arrowman may be selected to be recognized with the Vigil Honor for outstanding service to Scouting, their lodge, or the Order of the Arrow. This honor is limited to not more than one Arrowman for every 50 members registered with the lodge each year. In our Lodge that means we can select up to five a year.

For more information visit our Vigil site.
